Make sure your vehicle is safe and ready
Drive to your mechanic and do a mandatory check-up before you hit the road, the last thing you want in a road trip is your vehicle to malfunction. Make sure you check these
- Check your filter and oil levels
- Top off all fluid levels, including coolant and windshield wiper fluid
- Change your air filter, if needed
- Check your tires, including the spare tire, for proper inflation
- Rotate tires, if you haven't had it done for the last six months or 7,500 miles
- Inspect belts and hoses
- Test the battery and brakes
- Change transmission fluid if needed

Pack beforehand and do a recheck
Never wait till the last second to get your things packed, this leads to you missing important things behind. This often leads to delays or unwanted stops during the trip making the trip a bit annoying then planned.
Talking about packing, make sure you pack an emergency kit and don’t forget to have everything you need in case of an emergency packed and ready in it. Also once you are packing up the car, remind yourself to put the emergency kit on top of everything else for easier access.

Plan your route
Technology has made everything easier for us, even planning your route can now be done in few minutes with just opening Google maps and going through it. Other factors that might be considered such as weather and road blocks can also be tracked via relevant apps.
This being easy does not mean that you should hit the road without doing it, for a flawless and hassle free trip it is important to have these things figured out before hand, even the gas stations you have to stop could be noted down or marked on the map for ease.
-
Take regular breaks
Regular breaks are needed for both the drivers and the vehicles. Drivers can be switched mid journey but do not forget to stop for a while once in a while on the road to give your vehicle the rest it needs. It would be easier if you look it up before heading out as different vehicles function differently.
As per the travelers, driving for long hours without taking a break causes nausea, fatigue and decreased visibility, increasing the risk of accidents.

Stay safe on the road
When you're on the road, remember every occupant needs to be buckled up at all times. Not only is this the law, but seat belts save lives. The safest place for kids under age 12 is in the back seat. Finally, if you feel fatigued, switch drivers or pull over to rest.
